Happy 💜 Purple Heart Day

Happy Purple Heart Day

The Purple Heart has a long and distinguished history that traces back to the AmCreation (1782): The medal's origins lie in the "Badge of Military Merit," established by General George Washington on August 7, 1782. This was the first American military decoration and was created to recognize "any singularly meritorious action" by enlisted soldiers. The original badge was a heart-shaped piece of purple cloth. Only three of these badges are known to have been awarded during the Revolutionary War.
